About Me

"The best way to predict your future is to create it."  - Abraham Lincoln

Welcome! My name is Amy Shimmel. I've been in the Lakeview district as a teacher for over 15 years. I taught in Lakeview both before and after my child care leave. I graduated from Albion College with my Bachelor's Degree in English, Art, and Education and later obtained my Master's Degree in Education at Wayne State University. I started my teaching career at St. David Grade School in Detroit and I was there for 3 years. I then substituted around the East side of Detroit for a little over 3 years before being hired in at Lakeview. After only 3 years I took a leave and raised my two children. I have taught at Jefferson Middle School and Harmon Elementary in the early 1990s and have been at Princeton Elementary since returning to work. I have had experience teaching almost all elementary grade levels over the years at Princeton including 5th grade, 4th grade, and most recently 2nd grade. From the time I was in 1st grade I wanted to be a teacher! I feel very fortunate to have realized that dream. I am always honored each year to be entrusted with the care of my students and I take my job very seriously. Not only do I work hard to teach the expected academics, but I also try to help develop decent human beings as well. It is my pleasure to be your child's teacher!
